27 July 2016 (Apple Daily) Hyperthermia at Over 40.5 degrees could kill within 10 minutes

It has only been 3 days since the launch of Pokemon Go in Hong Kong; people have been well tempted to step out of their home to catch their dream Pokemons on the streets. No matter how weak and incompetent or fit and tough you are, people should always be aware of heat exhaustion, especially under the persisting hot weather recently. A heatstroke could have serious effects to your body, including dizziness, nausea, etc. In serious cases, patients die within 10 minutes due to internal organ failure. Fatal rate is 10 - 20%.

During or after exercise, loss of large amount of body fluid will lead to heat syncope, which causes dehydration and low blood pressure. In these cases, patients will slowly revive by elevating their legs to allow blood flow into the brain. However, in the more serious cases of heatstroke, it can cause renal failure, liver failure, loss of CPK (a type of body enzyme), cardiac arrhythmia and even heart failure.

Doctors suggest that we drink plenty of fluid and electrolytes during outdoor activities. 200ml of water is recommended for every 15 minutes under the hot weather. Patients suffering from a cold should avoid outdoor activities, as the majority of flu medicines contain anti-histamine, which suppresses sweating and patients are prone to overheating.
