An elderly man fell ill and lost consciousness during hiking yesterday near Ma On Shan Country Park under the hot weather. Due to weak reception signal, it took more than 20 minutes for his friends to make an emergency call. Government Flying Service (GFS) was contacted and sent the patient to PYNEH, but he died in the hospital later. This was the 4th fatal accident related to outdoor activities within 2 days.
Lau, aged 78, was a regular lone hiker and did not have any known medical record. Police found him earlier but they had to wait for the GFS helicopter to carry the patient via air. A&E doctor had been applying CPR throughout the rescue but it was proved unsuccessful.
Two other men, aged 48 and 57, drowned at Sai Kun Long Ke Wan and Clear Water Bay 2nd Beach respectively two days ago.
