A 62-year-old Ukrainian man collapsed outside Tsuen Wan West MTR Station last Friday (14 Feb) and was later pronounced dead. An off-duty medical professional who participated in the rescue efforts stated that they had asked MTR staff to lend an AED (automated external defibrillator) to provide emergency assistance to the man. However, the staff allegedly refused, claiming that the incident "was not their responsibility" since the man had collapsed outside the MTR premises. The rescuer criticized the staff for their lack of alertness and filed a complaint with the MTR.
Today (21 Feb), the MTR responded to the media, denying that they had refused to lend the AED. They stated that, according to their records, the ambulance had already arrived at the scene one minute before the rescuer approached the station staff for assistance.
