A 46-year-old man collapsed and lost consciousness while playing basketball at the recreational area on Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong tonight. His teammates immediately reported to the police for help. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene promptly and performed emergency procedures including CPR. However, the man was confirmed dead after being sent to Ruttonjee Hospital.
According to the man's basketball friends, the victim was overweight, and someone had used an automated external defibrillator for emergency rescue. The police blocked off a bench at the basketball court and found several plastic bottles, and are investigating the incident. It was understood that the man had an appointment with friends to play basketball at night, felt unwell after an hour and then collapsed while resting on the sideliner.
